1er for the following command you should have the following output:

[sacha@ ~]$ ls -lU /dev/audio /dev/dsp /dev/mixer /dev/hdb /dev/cdrom
lrwxrwxrwx   1 root     root           11 Jun 24  1998 /dev/audio -> /dev/audio0
lrwxrwxrwx   1 root     root            9 Jun 24  1998 /dev/dsp -> /dev/dsp0
lrwxrwxrwx   1 root     root           11 Jun 24  1998 /dev/mixer -> /dev/mixer0
brwxrwxrwx   1 root     disk       3,  64 Sep  8  1994 /dev/hdb
lrwxrwxrwx   1 root     root            8 Mar  7 23:09 /dev/cdrom -> /dev/hdb

if permissions are bad do chmod 777 /dev/'device'

I've never tryed to edit them, but it is not a good idea, they are not
ordinary files, these files are device-type (streams)

Please, tell me:
1. can you mount CDes succefully? (I think 'yes')
2. can you play digital format music (.au, .wav, .mp3)?
3. what happens when you run 'cdplay -c /dev/hdb >dev/audio'?
