1. in any distribution should be package multimedia-2.1 which is
	- unsupported for some years
	- rather stable and seems to work
	- contents xcdplay, xmixer and some other (unusble) stuff
2. you can have a look at any Linux software list (I've used
http://www.xnet.com/~blatura/linapps.shtml, there should be a better one)
3. you can install gnome (www.gnome.org) or kde (www.kde.org) or, for
gmix, just gnome-libs, I think.
